Not every person is interested in attending a campus-based college for four years of their life in order to get a degree. However, most people do realize that a degree is necessary to moving forward with their career goals. For the non-traditional student who wants to get a good degree, there are a variety of different options.
Here are some of the more popular choices for alternative school degrees:
- Community college. Some students don’t mind attending a campus-based college for two years but don’t want to do it for four so this plan works.
- Online college. Then there are those students who don’t want to attend classes at all so they get their education online.
- Certification programs. Whether online or campus-based, these classes can lead to careers in health care, massage therapy, business, paralegal studies and other great careers. They usually take less than one year to complete.
- Apprenticeships. In rare cases, some people still apprentice under a professional to get a specific education. For example, students interested in eco-living may apprentice on an organic farm.
There is no reason that an individual shouldn’t be able to get the career that he or she desires even if the will to attend a traditional college just isn’t there. Students who feel frustrated with the traditional system should review their alternatives and choose a solution that works for them.
