College and family bonding
Nov 17, 2008
My sister works full time, raises two kids and is taking classes toward her online associate degree. Did I mention she also sings in the church choir? I’m constantly amazed at my sister’s endurance in pursuing her education and raising her family. After her associate degree my sister wants to attain a bachelor degree in human resources.
My sister’s daughter at nineteen is also taking college classes. She’s in an online humanities degree program. Right now both mother and daughter are struggling through some required math and English courses. College is challenging, but the rewards are plentiful.
I’ve seen a lot of positive changes within my niece. In high school she was a poor student, and a lot of her self esteem came from male attention. Now my niece is building her self esteem from her own accomplishments. To her amazement, my niece is getting an ‘’A” in her math class. In high school she barely passed her math classes. One great advantage is the free tutoring her college offers. My niece visits her math tutor several times a week, and does practice problems on math websites. Last week her little brother helped her with fraction homework. Did you know college can promote family bonding?
