I have a degree in government social service from a well-known state school. Like other Bachelor’s Degrees, it should have taken me four years to complete this degree. However, I had no problem completing the degree in just under two years.
Here is how I did it:
- I simultaneously attended a community college and the state school. This allowed me to take more credits than you’re allowed to at any one school in order to complete my degree in half time. I transferred all of the community college credits to the state school in the last semester.
- I primarily took online classes. I’m a quick reader and a quick learner. Instead of spending hours sitting through lectures, I was able to make use of these skills to complete each class more quickly.
- I took several classes in topics I already knew about. It’s not the best way to get an education but it is an easy way to get a degree.
- I stayed hyper-organized. Managing this many classes, knowing when I needed to be online and when things were due were all things that I knew were required to get my degree done quickly.
The question I am most often asked about this is whether I was able to have any life outside of school while completing my degree. Indeed, I was raising children and doing volunteer work. It was a tight schedule but it was do-able since I had my goal in mind.
